Frequently Asked Questions

Product

What are your bedding products made of?

suki. bedding and robes are made from 100% French flax linen.

Your decision to use natural linen is a sustainable choice. The linen textile is made from flax plants that can grow in poor soil, its cultivation uses almost no fertiliser and requires much less water than cotton as an example. All parts of the flax plant, from the fibre to seeds, are used leaving little to no waste. 100% flax linen products are extremely durable, you are buying them not just for a season but for decades to come.

What is the best way to care for my suki. linen bedding?

To ensure you can love sleeping in your linen sheets for a long, long time, it’s important to look after them. The guide below will help you love your linen for longer.

WASHING

Use a warm, gentle machine wash on a short cycle together with a mild, gentle textile washing detergent. Remove from the machine as soon as the cycle finishes and give them a gentle shake to release creases and excess fibres. We suggest washing bed sheets once a week to help them remain fresh and bacteria free.

Avoid using fabric softeners with your suki. linen bedding, they will reduce linen’s natural moisture-wicking abilities. Linen naturally gets softer with every wash.

Avoid using any form of bleach. Being an all-natural fabric, linen is susceptible to fading and discolouration if it comes into contact with harsh chemicals – this includes bleaching agents that can be found in face creams and ointments.

DRYING

We suggest a low warm gentle heat setting (a hot setting may cause shrinkage) on your tumble dryer and then remove your linen bedding as soon as it is dry, this will help avoid excessive wrinkling. Don’t be nervous about seeing some lint accumulation in your dryer’s filter after your first few tumble dries. These are just the excess fibres releasing and it’s perfectly normal. If you prefer to dry your linen bedding naturally, be sure to hang it out in the shade to prolong use.

IRONING

Linen bedding looks best in a naturally relaxed, cosy, crumpled way, so ironing is not necessary – if you really want to iron, be sure to use a low setting on your iron.

ROTATING

While Linen sheets are a beautifully strong natural fibre and are intended to be used for many years, like your favourite clothing items or your favourite pair of shoes, the more you use your linen bedding without rotating sheet sets, the more you will wear the fabric down. We suggest having several sets of sheets and rotating sets each time you wash them.

STORING

Ensure your linen bedding is fully dry before storing. We suggest you then neatly fold your linen and store it in a dry cupboard (avoid humidity with any of your bedding fabrics). Between rotations, you can store your suki. bed linen in the linen tote bag you received it in. This will help protect your lovely fresh linen while being stored.

Where are your products made?

Our suki. linen bedding is designed in Australia and is beautifully created in India by our manufacturing partner; a family owned and operated business that has been working with textiles for almost 30 years.

Our body care product offering embodies the beauty and efficacy of Australian natives and botanicals and is Australian made and owned.

Our ceramics and other homewares are designed in Australia & New Zealand and are created, and hand finished by artisans throughout Asia.

I’ve noticed some fibres coming from my bedding, why does my linen shed?

Our initial washing and linen preparation process helps to ensure that your suki. linen bedding items arrive to you soft & cosy. As a result, you may find that your linen items continue to shed fibres for a period of time, due to the fabric being softened and the excess fibres continuing to be released. This is normal with 100% linen items; you can speed up the process with a few luke-warm machine washes and low heat tumble dry cycles.

Rest assured, your 100% French flax suki. linen bedding will be super soft & cosy, and you will love sleeping with suki. for years!

Why do some linens have a different feel?

While still soft & cosy, you may notice that our natural linens are slightly more texturised than our coloured linens. This is because our coloured linens go through an additional dying and washing process which continues to soften the linen fibre, our undyed flax doesn’t need to go through this colour process. If you feel your natural linen items aren’t quite as soft as your coloured linen, give them a few extra washes and low heat tumble dry cycles to help speed up the softening process.

Why are pure linen sheets a good choice?

Linen is woven from the flax plant which is different to cotton. The fibrous strands of flax are much larger and have a hollow centre in their grass-like stalks. It’s because of these hollow stalks that woven linen has an incredible ability to manage moisture and release moisture to dry very quickly. Beautiful linen bedding allows cool, dry air to pass freely, keeping your body the right temperature as you sleep. Your linen will have a cool, dry, textured feel and will feel luxurious on your skin – even in hot, humid weather. 100% flax linen will keep you cool in warm weather and warm on cool nights. This is a unique characteristic of flax linen and makes it a very worthwhile investment.

Should I rotate my linen sheets?

As with any fabric bed sheets, it is recommended that you rotate usage of your linen sheet sets to prolong the life of your beautiful bedding. Follow the care instructions on your linen sheets and give your sheet sets a little break with a fresh rotation of another sheet set.

Will the colour I see on my screen exactly match what I receive?

We work hard to show our colours well on the screen and to represent the colour you are expecting after placing your order; however, we certainly can’t make any promises as light, colour intensity on computer screens and situational changes can affect the intensity of colour.

Please do note though, that returns/exchanges for discrepancy of colour will be considered a change of mind.

If you believe this to be the case, please email the team at hi@sukicollective.com.au, providing your contact details, an explanation of what you believe has happened together with images of the fault and one of the suki.collective team will be in touch to reach the best possible solution.

We respectfully wish to highlight that this guarantee does not apply to change of mind returns, or damage inflicted by improper or negligent use (including but not limited to: stains from food, household products, or body oils; incorrect washing or drying; snags or tears from exposure to sharp objects).

Variations in colour, texture and stray fibrous threads are considered normal, and a part of linen’s uniqueness and stunning organic nature given linen is a completely natural fiber – that’s why we love it! These things are not considered a fault of the fabric.

With proper care, high quality linen can last for many, many years. We suggest you closely follow our care instructions to extend the life of your linen.
