Embracing Calm

The power of soothing rituals personally and in our work lives is important to tap into in the fast-paced world we live in today, finding moments of tranquillity and peace becomes essential for our well-being. Establishing soothing rituals that offer us moments of calm and mindfulness, help us to be present for ourselves and others. Not only being present for our loved ones but also being present and ready to manage the world of work & business.

The gym might be your thing, soothing rituals partnered with your gym visits are also deliberate acts of self-care that help us relax, unwind, focus and alleviate stress. They can also allow us to escape potential chaos and find solace in simple, repetitive actions.

Establishing these rituals are not just comforting routines; they are a means of finding quiet in the present moment. Explore below the power of soothing rituals and how they can enhance our lives.

Morning Soothing Rituals: A Calm Start

Morning Meditation: Start your day with a moment of silence and mindfulness. Whether it’s a short meditation session as you sit at the kitchen counter ready to eat breakfast or a few minutes of deep breathing, this ritual can set a positive tone for the day ahead.

Warm Beverage: The simple act of brewing a cup of tea or coffee in the morning can be incredibly soothing. Rather than rushing it, take 15 minutes to savour the aroma and flavour, allowing it to awaken your senses gently. There’s plenty of time to be busy!

Stretching and Yoga: Incorporating some gentle stretches or a quick yoga routine into your morning ritual, even after a gym session, can help relax your body and prepare it for the day ahead.

During the Day Soothing Rituals: Maintaining Presence

Step Out: We’ve all been in those meetings or social get togethers that can sometimes become overwhelming, and we just need a few minutes to regroup. Politely step out/away, give yourself a few minutes, try some deep breathing to relax & then go back to the meeting/group and re-engage.

Breathe – just breathe: focusing on your breathing helps to bring you back to the present moment. It’s the simplest thing we can possibly do on the spot, in whichever situation we are in, to calm ourselves and relax our minds.

Evening Soothing Rituals: A Tranquil Wind-Down

Digital Detox: An hour before bedtime, disconnect from your socials & screens. It’s tough at first, however, this practice can help calm your mind and improve sleep quality.

Reading: Reading a few pages of a book before bedtime can transport you to a different world, making it easier to transition into a restful sleep.

Hot Bath or Shower: A warm bath or shower is an excellent way to relax your muscles and wash away the stress of the day. Add some soothing scents in your body wash like lavender or eucalyptus for an extra touch of relaxation.

Weekly Soothing Rituals: Recharge & Refresh

Scrub: Use a gentle body polish to refresh your skin and stimulate blood flow.

Hydrate: Find the perfect body oil to lather on after a warm shower or bath to rejuvenate and hydrate your skin.

Soothing rituals are not just a matter of personal preference; they are backed by science. When we engage in soothing rituals, our bodies release neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which promote feelings of happiness and relaxation.

To fully embrace the power of soothing rituals, make them a consistent part of your routine. Start by identifying the rituals that resonate with you the most and that fit into your daily or weekly schedule. Gradually, these rituals will become an integral part of your life, providing you with a sanctuary of peace and calm amidst the chaos.

So, take a moment to breathe, slow down, and embrace the soothing rituals that bring serenity into your life.

The Cool Way to Better Sleep

In the quest for a restful night’s sleep, many factors come into play: a comfortable mattress, cosy bedding, and a tranquil environment. However, one often overlooked element that can significantly impact your sleep quality is the temperature of your sleep space.

Contrary to cosy stereotypes of warm, toasty bedrooms, science demonstrates that it’s best to sleep in a cool space. We explored why maintaining a cool sleeping environment can lead to better sleep and overall well-being and happiness.

1. Do you wonder why you sometimes have trouble falling and staying asleep?

Your sleep space could be too warm. The human body operates on a delicate balance when it comes to temperature regulation. During sleep, our core body temperature naturally drops as part of the circadian rhythm. A cool sleeping environment helps facilitate this temperature drop, allowing your body to maintain its natural sleep-wake cycle. When your room is too warm, it can disrupt this process, leading to difficulties falling and staying asleep throughout the night.

2. It’s so important to try & achieve a deeper, more restorative sleep.

Research has consistently shown that a cool sleeping environment promotes deeper and more restorative sleep. When you sleep in a room with a lower temperature, your body can better release melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep. This hormone is produced in response to darkness and lower temperatures, signalling to your body that it’s time to rest. A cooler room encourages a higher quality of sleep, leaving you feeling more refreshed in the morning – and who wouldn’t enjoy that!

3. Wondering how to enhance your sleep comfort?

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night feeling hot and sweaty – so uncomfortable! An excessively warm room can lead to discomfort and bouts of frequently waking & disruption of your sleep cycle. Conversely, a cool sleeping environment and cosying into your favourite bed linen, keeps you comfortable throughout the night, reducing the likelihood of waking up due to temperature-related discomfort. This translates to longer, uninterrupted periods of sleep, allowing you to reap the benefits of a full sleep cycle.

4. A cool sleep space can improve sleep efficiency.

Sleep efficiency refers to the ratio of time spent sleeping to the total time spent in bed. Cooler sleeping spaces tend to have higher sleep efficiency ratings because they promote falling asleep faster and more efficiently. In contrast, a warm room can make it difficult to fall asleep, leading to extended periods of lying in bed awake. A cool room helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep, ultimately increasing sleep efficiency.

5. The benefits of better health and well-being!

Getting good sleep is closely linked to overall health and well-being. When you prioritise sleeping in a cool space, you are not only helping yourself improve the quality of your sleep, but you are also reaping the numerous health benefits associated with it. These benefits have been proven to include better cognitive function, enhanced mood, a stronger immune system, and a reduced risk of chronic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

So, in the pursuit of a good night’s sleep, don’t underestimate the power of a cool sleeping environment. By optimising your room’s temperature, you can enhance your sleep quality, enjoy deeper restorative sleep, and wake up feeling refreshed and revitalised. The science is clear: it’s best to sleep in a cool space for your overall health & well-being.

When you next prepare for bedtime, consider turning on the ceiling fan or turning down the thermostat a few degrees, slip in-between your cosy suki. French flax linen bed sheets and create the perfect cool haven for a restful night’s sleep – enjoy.

Should I Scrub?

Absolutely & here’s why.

Body scrubs have been a part of skin rituals all over the world for centuries; the Ancient Egyptians were credited for their exfoliation techniques, using scrubs made from sand or plants. So too the Native Americans exfoliated using dried corncobs and particular tribes would exfoliate with handfuls of sand scooped up from the bottom of the riverbed.

Body scrubs are typically massaged onto the skin, usually in gentle, circular motions. This method of using body scrubs encourages proper blood circulation in the body which not only benefits your overall health, but even your skin’s health…win, win!

Shower time

At suki.collective, we understand that your shower time is sacred. It should be a moment of self- care and rejuvenation. Think of a body polish as a gentle wake up call for your skin cells. It exfoliates, removes dead skins cells and leaves your skin feeling more radiant and glowing – it’s like a breath of fresh air for your skin.

How often should you scrub?

We suggest using a gentle body polish at least once a week & up to twice a week.

When choosing your body polish, it’s important to your skin to avoid harsh chemicals and synthetic additives. Your body polish should be all-natural and provide a gentle exfoliation leaving your skin free of dead skin cells.

How best to use a body polish?

Focus on areas that tend to be drier; elbows, knees & heels and be sure to lather on a rich body cream or body oil soon after using your body polish as your skin will be ready to absorb moisturiser and will retain maximum hydration.

Our Australian botanical body polish is packed with natural ingredients and formulated with raw sugar, coconut, sea salt and shea butter which work harmoniously to lock in moisture and leave your skin feeling velvety smooth.

So scrub up people!
